How do I access an NDIS plan?
If you are living with a disability, you might have some difficulty with accessing the supports you need to live a fulfilling life independently.
Fortunately, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides supports for Australian citizens living with significant and/or permanent disability.
If you think that yourself or your love done might be eligible for NDIS funding, there are several steps that need to be undertaken to apply for NDIS support.
Firstly, there are some requirements that you need to meet to ensure that you are eligible for NDIS funding. These requirements are.
- You need to be younger than 65 years old.
- You need to be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency.
- Meet the relevant disability requirements.
If you like more information about whether your condition meets the criteria, you can visit www.ndis.gov/eligibility and complete a self-assessment questionnaire or you can contact an Information Linkage Officer at 1800 800 110 for more information.
Once you have completed the self-assessment form, and it has been determined that your disability is either significant and/or permanent, then you can commence with the application process. There are many paths that you can take to commence with the application process such as
- Applying online by completing the NDIS access request form which can be found at https://www.ndis.gov.au/how-apply-ndis/what-access-request-form
- Calling the NDIS at 1800 800 110 for further information
- Speak to a local area coordinator or approved NDIS provider for assistance regarding filling out the relevant documents.
After you have submitted all the relevant documentation, a decision regarding your NDIS application will often be made within 2 weeks.
Once your NDIS application has been approved, you will receive a letter from the NDIS confirming your successful application.
After you have received this letter, a NDIS representative will contact you to arrange an assessment to help determine the supports and amount of hours needed to help you reach your goals.
And on completion of this assessment, a NDIS planner will work with you to develop a plan that outlines the support and services you will receive under the NDIS.
You will then be able to access the services outlined in your plan under the NDIS.
